Philosophy

My training philosophy is based on horse-human communication. Building confidence within and between rider/handler and horse. A trainer must be able to detect what the horse wants, needs, and feels in order to determine the origin of its behavior. That communication must be paired with an understanding that horses have limits that require patience, as well as determination, on the part of their human handler. At the heart of my training successes is the trust that I have built with each of the horses with whom I have worked. I believe my techniques are both humane and progressive.

My training methods translate well to the riding instruction I provide to my students. Whether on your own horse or a lesson horse it is equally important to gain trust, respect, and understanding between the two of you. This is the most effective way to ensure not only development, but true enjoyment of your chosen equine sport. As I believe it is enriching to one's education, I often provide my students opportunities to work with other horses in addition to their own.

Background

I have accumulated over 30 years of experience riding, training, and handling horses. I have received formal instruction in the disciplines of dressage, eventing, polo, hunt seat, jumping, driving, and saddleseat. Some of the breeds I have worked with include Thoroughbred, Friesian, Arabian, American Saddlebred, Standardbred, Morgan, Tennessee Walker, American Quarter Horse, and various Warmblood and draft breeds.

I specialize in starting young horses, problem solving, and behavior modification. I have extensive experience in rehabilitating thoroughbreds from the racetrack.

I have mastered management of full service training facilities from 10-25 horses each. I possess considerable skill preparing horses, tack, and riders for competitions ranging in levels from 4-H to advanced level competitions.

I have over 20 years of experience in riding and basic horse care instruction for students, ages four to adult, from beginning through advanced ability. My clients are comprised of those who are first time horse owners and beginners to more experienced riders/handlers desiring to advance through the competition levels.
